A very short review of Avengers: It’s bloody good.
A slightly longer review of Avengers:
Considering the scope of what ‘Avengers’ (or as the UK distributors would have; Marvel Avengers: Assemble) is trying to accomplish the almost perfect execution is something of a surprise. Never before have we had a comic book style coming together of the plots and characters of multiple films. An action movie at its very core Avengers manages to surpass most films in this blockbuster genre by adhering to basic principles like avoiding shaky cam, something that has plagued even the better of its most recent contemporaries (The Dark Knight I’m looking at you). What’s more, in typical Joss Whedon fashion the dialogue is absolutely top notch, utterly witty and moving when it needs to be meaning that all the protagonists, of which there are arguably eight, are used in decent capacity completely wiping away worries that some of the characters would be filling extended cameo roles.
Despite a simplistic plot the film is an absolute blast, and with one of the most satisfying and action packed final acts in recent memory (bar Whedon’s other film out this month, ‘The Cabin in the Woods’) and Mark Rufallo stealing the show as Bruce Banner ‘Avengers’ is an absolute must-see.
